Ohio's Leading Voice for the Animals
Escaped For His Life
March 2024
On March 11, Fayette County Deputy Sheriff Billy Kearney found and caught a piglet found running near US 35. He contacted Fayette County Humane Society. Chief Humane Agent Brad Adams and Humane Agent Sidney Ford brought the piglet to the Ohio SPCA Farm Sanctuary. We are thankful that he was picked up before reaching the road. This deputy sheriff demonstrated how we need more compassion for all living creatures.
This boy only weighed 7 lbs and was covered with scrapes and bruises after falling off a truck transporting him to another farm so he could be fattened for slaughter. Despite his injuries, he still demonstrated the same spirit he used to escape his dire circumstances. He escaped twice in as many days from the enclosures we put him in. Because of his cleverness and spirit, we named him Huey, which means "in bright mind and spirit" in German.
He is safe now and will know only love in his forever home here at the farm sanctuary. Once he grows he will be able to join our other three large pigs, Trooper, Gus, and Clover.
