RESCUED! FROM PUGS TO PIGEONS
April 2017
A major rescue operation that started with the removal of a large number of Pugs by the Ohio SPCA Response Team ended with nearly 200 animals being freed from horrendous conditions that were far from life-sustaining. The ammonia level and fecal dust were overwhelming as the rescuers fought their way among debris and feces to free multiple species from waste-filled crates and cages within the home. The breeding/hoarding situation was among the worse the Ohio SPCA has encountered in decades of life-saving work. Over half of the animals lived in darkness without adequate water, food, or fresh air.
Freedom came just in time for 195 animals which included a large number of chickens, rabbits, Guinea Pigs, cats, dogs, Sugar Gliders, parakeets, and more. Help arrived too late for those whose remains were found among the debris. It is our hope that all of the rescued animals will survive. Many of their bodies lack any fat or muscle and they were extremely lethargic as our response team members picked them up and carried them on their first steps to freedom, fresh air, clear water, and wholesome food.
The scenes from this rescue are forever imprinted in the minds and hearts of our response team members. As we continue to care for each animal regardless of species, we are heartbroken over what they were forced to endure. Now, we will focus on their full recovery and look forward to the happy endings as they find new forever homes.
The sudden addition of nearly 200 animals places a huge stress on our budget. Through your tax-deductible donation, you can be a part of their journey as they regain their health. Please join us as we travel alongside these animals on their road to recovery.
