Organizations Work Together to Help Over 50 Cats and Kittens in Logan County, Ohio
April 2010 – When the Ohio SPCA received a call regarding over 50 cats needing to be removed from a residential property in Logan County, Ohio, we knew help would be needed from multiple animal organizations. Obtaining help is not easily done, as the cat overpopulation in Ohio is heartbreaking and animal shelters everywhere are at full capacity. In this situation, the cats were being well-cared for, but neighbors were complaining.
If you can help, please contact the Ohio SPCA at ohiospca@verizon.net. A few of the cats are somewhat feral and may go to approved farm homes.
A huge THANK YOU to the following organizations for their help in saving these cats. It couldn’t have been done without them!
Capital Area Humane Society http://www.cahs-pets.org/
CAHS spayed and neutered the majority of the cats for us at no charge. We are extremely grateful for their offer of help. As we all know, altering these cats is of great importance, if we are to stop pet overpopulation.
Black & Orange Cat Foundation http://www.bandocats.org/
Robin Craft with BOCF transported carriers and traps to the property and spent days transporting cats to CAHS and UCHS. Without her help, the rescue of these cats would have been delayed. Thank you Robin for all your hard work on behalf of these felines. You have been a true blessing.
Union County Humane Society http://www.uchspets.org/
Despite being full, the Union County Humane Society made room for numerous six-month old kittens and several mothers with newborn litters. Thank you UCHS for being part of the effort to help so many cats in need.
The Forgotten Persian Rescue http://www.persianrescue.net/
Thank you FPR for accepting several cats from this situation. Your willingness to help has a made a difference.
Claudia Ruedrich – Volunteer with CAHS and transporter for Stop The Suffering and Fox Terrier Rescue. Thank you Claudia for assisting in the transport of these cats. You were a great help!
This situation could have been prevented if the first two or three cats had been spayed or neutered. Although we are making sure that these cats are re-homed, many others elsewhere will not be so lucky. Every year thousands of cats are euthanized in shelters or left to fend for themselves on country roads and city streets.
